Students are opposed to a thirty percent public sector job quota for family members of veterans who participated in the 1971 War of Independence, citing high rates of youth unemployment. Following a clash between students and police over the public service quota system that left thousands injured and several hundred dead, Bangladesh decided that all of its educational institutions would be permanently shuttered.
